Week 1-5 Math: - I know simple fractions - I know equivalent fractions - I can compare and order fractions - I know the relationship between fractions and mixed numbers - I can add mixed numbers and improper fractions - I can subtract mixed numbers and improper fractions - I can name fractions of a set - I can find the product of proper fraction and a whole number Science: - Cells and heredity - Plants and reproduction - Animals and reproduction - Adaptations and responses Language Arts: History- An investigation into the United Nations Language focus: - Using noun and adjective groups and phrases to improve descriptions. - Simple present, past and future, present and past continuous and present and past perfect tenses. - Adverb groups and phrases to add detail. - Omission of articles. Writing focus: - Using capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, colons, semicolons, dashes and brackets correctly. - Direct and indirect speech in different text types. - Understand and use complex sentences. - Writing to report Listening: Examining a range of sources of evidence to identify similarities and/or differences and describing where necessary what they reveal about past and present developments. Listen for specific purpose in a variety of situations. Speaking: Examine and discuss two or more sources of evidence to identify similarities and/or differences and describing what they reveal about the past. Explore and explain motivations and actions of an individual or group that shaped development. Reading: Locate information related to inquiry questions from a range of sources. As part of the inquiry process work cooperatively with others to access, read, interpret, and evaluate a range of source materials. Selecting an appropriate text structure for the writing purpose and sequencing content according to that text structure, introducing the topic, and grouping related information in well sequenced paragraphs with a concluding statement. After reading formulate questions about the text that remain unanswered. Writing: Reread, edit and revise to improve their own writing, e.g. content, language, organisation. Using appropriate grammatical features, including more complex sentences and relevant verb tense, pronoun reference, adverb and noun groups/phrases for effective descriptions. Write for a range of purposes, both creative and informative, using different types of structures and styles according to the purpose of the writing. Viewing: Describe personal reactions to visual messages, reflect on why others may perceive the images differently. Explain how relevant personal experiences can add to the meaning of a selected film/movie; write and illustrate a personal response. Presenting: Creating charts, pictorial stories, digital and oral presentations to explain the differences the present and the past. Reporting on a topic in an organised manner, providing relevant facts and descriptive detail to enhance audience understanding, and beginning to refer to reliable sources to support claims. Language focus:
Speaking: Understand that social interactions influence the way people engage with ideas and respond to others. Understand differences between the language of opinion and feeling and the language of factual reporting. Reading: Synthesising ideas and information from texts leads to new ideas and understanding. Different types of texts serve different purposes. Writing: The way we structure and organize our writing helps others to understand and appreciate it. Rereading and editing our own writing enables us to express what we want to say more clearly. Viewing: Explore the characteristics and properties of materials and components that are used to produce designed solutions. Different visual techniques produce different effects and are used to present different types of information. Presenting: Selecting the most suitable forms of visual presentation enhances our ability to express ideas and images. People use static and moving images to communicate ideas and information. We in P5, teachers and students, are committed to make the 2016/17 academic year an academically successful one.
